Oh yeah. These kinds of incidents are quite common even in modern war, let alone back then.

USS Pompano was mistakenly bombed by aircraft from USS Enterprise but managed to escape.

USS Tang pictured above, was an ace US submarine… until she literally sank herself with a circular running torpedo.

What is the reason that Worcester, Massachusetts is not as well-known as Boston and Springfield, even though it is a large city with many neighborhoods?
